NTUA Vice-Rector Athanasios Zisis Elected Co-Chair of EULiST Management Board
On Thursday, May 23rd, 2024, during the annual 2024 EULiST General Assembly at Brno University of Technology (BUT), in the enchanting city of Brno, two of the most important decision-making bodies of EULiST, the Governing Board and the Management Board, elected their new chair and co-chair.
We are very proud to announce that Professor Athanasios Zisis, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Lifelong Learning at National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), has been appointed as the co-chair of the Management Board.
Athanasios Zisis is currently a Professor in the area of Micromechanics of Deformable Solids and Contact Mechanics at the School of Applied Mathematics and Physical Sciences at NTUA. He graduated from the School of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering at NTUA (1996-2001) and continued his studies at University of Cambridge. In 2005 he obtained his Ph.D. in Contact Mechanics of Microstructured Materials, fully funded by the EPSRC and the National Science Foundation.
After completing his Ph.D., he worked as a Research Associate at NTUA and the National Centre for Scientific Research “Demokritos” in the field of nuclear engineering. In 2008, he was appointed the position as an Adjunct Lecturer at University of Thessaly, teaching Mechanics. There, he also worked as a Research Associate on the area of Computational Mechanics.
In 2012, he was elected Assistant Professor at NTUA and began collaborating with the Unit of Computational Fracture Mechanics and Dynamics. In 2014, he served as a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at University of Trento, in Italy. In 2019, he was promoted to Associate Professor at the School of Applied Mathematics and Physical Sciences, Department of Mechanics, at NTUA and as of July 2024, he has achieved the rank of Professor. He has published over 40 papers in scientific journals and holds one patent.
